Best coffee, sandwiches and pastries in the area, plus great service. I stop here every time i am in South Haven and sometimes come here just to go to Julias.

Great coffee great baked goods and very friendly and fast staff and service! Great place to get my fix of coffee, I go to Julia's every time I am in the area and will continue to patronize Julia's no matter what time of year and no matter what the weather. Tip your barista!

My husband and I stopped here for a light breakfast. I got a cappuccino and a boston cream cronut. Both were delicious! I hate it when boston creams don't have enough filling in them but this one definitely had the perfect amount. The ambiance is cute and relaxed. I will definitely revisit this cute coffee shop on my next visit to South Haven.

When the other coffee shops are closed, Julia's is open. Great cappuccino and amazing breakfast sandwiches and pastries. Easy to get to and park since one street off of main promenade. Highly recommended.

We dropped in on a long car ride. We ordered an iced coffee, iced chai, breakfast sandwich and veggie sandwich. It took 15 minutes to get our food. The breakfast sandwich had overcooked bacon and the veggie sandwich had way too many carrots. We would not recommend this place.

Awesome coffee and really fresh nice pastries. The Almond Croissant - I stopped on the way back to Chicago just to get another fix. The Red, white, and green breakfast sandwich is also awesome. My favorite coffee spot in South haven.

New ownership since a few years ago. If you are accustomed to good bagels, skip these. Salads and sandwiches are good. Wifi is convenient.

Love this cafe. Free wifi. Delicious pastries, sandwiches, salads & soups. The blueberry croissant I had today was excellent. Good coffee, too. Easy parking in lot or on street out front.

A little pricey but great ambiance and service. Their cookies are the best. Great place to linger and talk or just watch the town in the summer.

30+ minute wait for a bagel sandwich. Baffled that it could take so long. It's as though they think it's normal too.

We were four travelers from Indianapolis headed home from a cabin getaway New Year's weekend. We needed good coffee and a hot breakfast. Cafe Julia did not disappoint. First, their coffee is of the gourmet variety, and you can get any drink here you want. The hot chai was especially tasty. But the real can't-miss here is the selection of fresh pastries. We tried the chocolate croissants and an apple turnover - both delicious! We each got a hot breakfast sandwich - you can choose from extremely thick cut bacon or nicely flavored sausage, homemade croissants or homemade bagels. Definitely give this place a try!

I have walked by many times and finally stopped. Had the breakfast sandwich on an everything bagel with havarti and bacon. Delicious! Lots of thick slab bacon, plenty of gooey cheese and great homemade bagel. Friendly staff. I also had a few pastries to go, I will be back!

Good coffee, reliable wifi and treats if that is your thing. A good stop during your travels.

Had a great pumpkin chai and a delicious breakfast sandwich. The sandwich was bacon, eggs, and cheese on a croissant. It was great! I was very impressed.

They catered a family event for us. I'd called them with only a few days lead time for the Saturday of Harborfest. We'd had to change the number of people a couple of times, but they were able to handle all my changes in plans with no problem. They did a fantastic job with the variety of food and accommodation of different dietary needs. And the food was wonderful. They delivered it, too, at the time I needed them too, after changing that a couple of times also.

South Haven doesn't have a lot of great coffee. Mind you, there are tons of places to get coffee and espresso drinks, and if you're not fussy just about any one of them will suffice. But if you're more particular about your coffee (and I am), then Cafe Julia should be on your list of places to try. It's not amazing in the way that Intelligentsia in Chicago is, but it's very good. It's a load better than Starbucks, for sure. They have free wifi, which (bizarrely) is hard to find in South Haven. The setup of the place is pleasant, with nice tables and the bar stools. When the weather is nice, the porches in front and back will be nice places to sit. The espresso isn't bitter or nasty, and the times that I've had milk with the espresso, it has been frothed competently and without those gross, airy bubbles that you find in the chain places. The froth wasn't as dense and "micro-foam"ish as you might find in the best places, but it's fine. The only spot in town I've found with better coffee is a new (and small) spot called The Lighthouse, which is also right downtown, but it doesn't have a Yelp page yet.

Great coffee. Great pastries. Great service. Just what we needed on a Saturday morning.

Cute shop with friendly young people working there. The coffee was ok and my husband and I split a chicken salad sandwich that was dry and a little overpriced....but it's a cute place and the outdoor deck was nice for enjoying our drinks on.

Albeit it's nice to have a coffee house jn south haven, it's over priced and you usually have to wait a while to get your food.

  • Charissa C.

They have chaider! Chai + Apple Cider = Happiness. Takes a little long for your order, but it is worth the wait for this drink!

this used to be one of my fav places in south haven. USED TO BE 1. menu change, means alot less....i mean ALOT LESS....theres really no point in going here except for the free wireless. they have the same stuff you can get at a starbucks 2. lunch sux, limited menu and no hot items except soup 3. breakfast is worse overall, a major downer..prior years it was a treat..now I wont go back..not worth it.

The coffee was very over priced. For 2 8oz coffees and a Danish, it was over $10. Even though this was a specialty coffee, I would drive somewhere else. I could have gotten 2 16oz specialty coffees and a Danish from Starbucks for this price. I always hit these small local coffee shops hoping for a wow factor and left here disappointed.

Very cute place! Workers were friendly. I tried the seasonal Hot Buttered Yum latte which was good! The espresso my husband got was delicious! The drip coffee was good, but not anything spectacular. Ambience was really nice and I'd definitely come back.

5 stars for the service and the bread, also try one of the dips (spreads) made with feta cheese and red peppers and a whole lot of other ingredients. Really good and I don't like feta. We were looking for some locally made bread. We went here and found none ready but they said they would make us a loaf if we were willing to wait for about 20 minutes. This is where the dip comes in. We ordered the bread and sat out on the front and then the rear porch where they have tables, chairs and rocking chairs and sampled the dip while we waited for the bread. Inside are tables and a small bar where you can enjoy your pastries, sandwiches, and a Bloody Mary if you like. We will be back.

This place is trendy and fun but a little pricey for my tastes. $10 for a sandwich and a small bag of chips is a lot to pay but the food is good so for a treat, this place is a good one to head to. Their turkey with cranberry chutney is really quite tasty and fresh. They at least have that going for them. They make their own bread and all their ingredients are fresh. They have a decent variety for a cafe. I'd definitely come back.

Wow, we were so disappointed. Cafe Julia really needs some good management!! We have been coming here for years. The draw has been the food, coffee, good service and atmosphere. The last couple of visits left us thinking - why bother. Our order took about 20 minutes and while waiting several people got served arriving after us. When we got our food it was the wrong order. After getting the correct order, it was plopped in front of us with no "I'm sorry about the delay" or "how was the food". This was lunch time and they only had two people running the place. It was pretty hectic. One of the staff was continually on her cell phone. For the price they charge, this place should be first rate and it just isn't. To be fair - food, coffee and atmosphere are still pretty good.

We love the pastries at Julia's but the coffee took so long to make we had finished our piece of cake and still had to wait for our coffee. When we finally got our coffee it was so awful tasting I couldn't drink it. So we threw them out along with the $10 we paid for them.

Cafe Julia is a nice place in downtown South Haven for a great cup of joe, tea and other exotic drinks. They offer free wifi and do have a great selection of pastries and a small menu of sandwiches and breakfast food served until 11. I only stopped in once and got an iced coffee and a red and white breakfast burrito -- it was filled with fresh basil, eggs, havarti cheese, and salsa. I also tasted a chai milk shake which was great. The place is very quaint and homey. If you want to relax, have some coffee and check your email, definitely stop by.

We enjoyed our visit at Cafe Julia - there were healthy and great tasting food options for everyone, and the ability to find and equally unhealthy desert to counter balance it all. I had a soutwest type of salad - beautiful fresh ingredients. Others in the family had sandwiches, all of which looked great, and again, full of fresh ingredients. Kids picked chocolate cake for desert - I had a bite and "wow!" - it was great. The icing was a bit different, and the cake was moist and very chocolatey. I had a Wrigley Bar, which looked like gooey bird seed patty. (What can I say - I actually do love healthy food!) It was delicious and I could have eaten another. (OK - I have my weaknesses too.) Place was clean, staff was friendly and very helpful. Everyone was smiling. Lots of young kids around, so family friendly too. Pet friendly too - they have bowls of water out for dogs on the outdoor patio. Would I recommend: Yes. Would I return: Yes.

Cafe Julia is currently the only place in South Haven to get a decent cup of coffee, but beware that they are actually pricier than Starbucks. This review, however is for the "bar" menu. Stopped in late afternoon for a snack after a little shopping trip. 3 of us had 2 cocktails, a hot chocolate, and an Amish cheese plate for $20 bucks. The fireside cocktail is delicious and the cheese plate was very generously sized with local cheeses and an out of this world red wine mustard. They seriously should bottle the mustard. This is not a comfortable place to sit and "hang out", but a quick snack and cocktail after shopping was lovely.

Lunch wasn't bad, kinda hi priced for portion, but very tasty dish.

I go to Julia's for lattes and scones in the morning while on vacation. The place is clean. The food is always consistent and tasty. The staff is friendly and helpful. Cafe Julia is my Starbucks away from home. I think some of the negative reviewers should give it a try again. Phoenix Street (same owners) is excellent too. We always hit that once or twice while in town.

I'm going to say what a lot of people are saying...julias use to be one of our favorite places...recently they've changed...they've revamped their sandwiches and entire menu. They use to have one of the best vegetarian sandwiches that I have ever had...now it's a wrap and it's terrible. Furthermore, everything is premade now instead of made to order...so they run out of choices as the day goes on... Overall, they've ruined themselves with all their changes and are now very disappointing! They're new menu is limiting and their new sandwiches are premade and not tasty...also their bakery items aren't as good as they use to be either... Very sad that they aren't what they use to be!

tasty food and good coffee but a little pricey. sandwich "meal" includes cookie and a baby-size side of slaw, $10

Good sandwiches and soups. Coffee isn't bad. Has free WiFi. Amicable staff. Why 4 stars for a place I'm describing as only better than average? try finding anything else better in South Haven!

  • Nikki M.

I was really excited to find this cute little place on my recent trip to South Haven. I just found it overpriced and mediocre. I was hoping this would be more of a "local" spot than a tourist spot, but as evidenced by my mostly milk iced latte and the lack of service, it was disappointing for the price, i'm sad to say. I went twice, so as to give it a second chance. Just hoped for a little more character!

A great coffee/pastry/sandwich shop! There prices are a little expensive, but they have a wide selection of choices and carry soy milk. There's plenty of seating inside and out and wifi to take advantage off. The extra star is for my grandma - they always took good care of her when she came in.

    (5)
  • RJ S.

They offer a menu of sandwiches, salads, wraps, coffee, etc.. Their granola cookie is a good dessert. I've tried the 'Admiral Byrd' mocha frappe and it's quite good. Available outdoor seating with two levels is another plus.

New menu= less choices, lower quality, less value. A premade, $7 breakfast burrito was unwrapped from cellophane, microwaved, & thrown on a plate. No side, no options. Service was impatient & bordered on rude. I used to love this place. Took my husband here & we were both disappointed & irritated when we left......not to mention we were still hungry!

Hey, for South Haven is was a nice place to sit, chat, and sip coffee in the sun on the second floor deck. Prices are reasonable, especially the pastries.

Owned by the same people as Phoenix Street cafe, a popular breakfast and lunch spot, cafe Julia is about a block away and is one of the few places you can get a decent coffee and late in South Haven. They also serve muffins and bake their own bread.

En route to a wedding in traverse city, we stopped at cafe Julia. It was a nice deli with fresh made sandwiches. The price is steep for what you get but the decor is homey. Dan got the Panini with bacon, ham, and turkey and I got the harvest turkey. The sandwiches are made to order with white or wheat breads and a selection of 4 sides... a coleslaw, a mulitigrain salad (cous cous..etc), chips, and bean corn salad. The sides are 3 ounces. Cafe Julia had a nice assortment of cookies and pastries. I was good but my friends got the chocolate peanut butter mouse thing. It looked very good. Coming to Cafe Julia was a nice detour from driving up to Traverse City.

This cafe has to be the best place to get any coffe or even hot chocolate in South Haven. No other place seems to compare. Food is also great but can be expensive. Their desserts can be rich, but still quite yummy. They also cater for most events. Food taste just as good fresh from the cafe. Service is always great too.

Great little coffee house with Wi-Fi for when you need to take some time out of your vacation to check a few things. They also bake their own bread which you can order on-demand and is ready, hot and fresh, in 30 minutes. The Rosemary potato bread we ordered pushed this review up to 5 stars.

A "Use to be" a great sandwich cafe. NOT NOW!! All that Ashley says describes my experience. Has moved to the "only when there is no other option" cafe. And there are other options.

I really like Cafe Julia. Its just a great little coffee joint. I like sitting on the back deck when the weather's nice. The cranberry turkey sandwich is a personal favorite. I also love the creme brule. I was so close to getting my free coffee on my punch card, but then I moved out of S. Haven. I'm still hoping to finish it up next time I am in town. It's not a Starbucks and I definitely love to support local owned businesses whenever I can.
